Whole school information
St. Paul’s School provides a carefully structured, integrated and diversified curriculum. We encourage pupils to think creatively and critically, to solve problems and to make a difference for the better. We provide pupils with rich and varied contexts to acquire, develop and apply their knowledge and skills. This equips them to become creative, innovative, enterprising and capable leaders.
The school’s curriculum has its foundation in the English National Curriculum incorporating the International Primary Curriculum, Cambridge IGCSEs and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. We also incorporate the requirements laid out by the Brazilian Core Curriculum. A wide variety of artistic, cultural and sporting extra-curricular activities, field trips and pastoral care support the curriculum.
At St. Paul’s we seek to instil a love of language, reading and independent thinking and research from an early age. We develop pupils’ physical skills and encourage them to recognise the importance of pursuing a healthy lifestyle and keeping themselves and others safe. Artistic expression and participation in sport are tools for development and lead pupils to be conscious of the world and environment in which they live. We also contribute to the development of each pupil’s sense of identity by helping them to understand the spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of our diverse society. Pauleans are acutely aware of the local, national and global dimensions of their lives.
The highest academic standards are upheld at St. Paul’s School, and pupils are encouraged to reflect on their own learning and monitor their own progress. Pupils, parents and teachers work together effectively to support pupils’ achievements, meaning that they leave us equipped to enter the best universities in Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States or elsewhere through participation in international public examinations.
A British bilingual and bicultural education
St. Paul’s School exists for Brazilian educational purposes as the Escola Britânica de São Paulo. This institution is divided into three sections: the Escola Infantil, Ensino Fundamental and Ensino Médio. In order to achieve the goals and objectives as stated in the School by-laws (Regimento Escolar), the integration of the two educational systems has been carefully planned so as to offer a bilingual and bicultural education. Qualified teachers, fully registered with the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) are part of the school’s teaching staff.
